JANUARY 24,
2007 UPDATED CONCEPT PLAN *DRAFT* DRAWINGS FOR
THE NEW SCHOOL
FIRST FLOOR
SECOND FLOOR
How to create a small neighborhood school
atmosphere in a large, multi-grade building was a major focus point for the local
committees involved in helping to plan the
layout of the new school.
The new preK-8 school will have two large
two-story wings. The first floor of one wing
will house kindergarten and pre-kindergarten
students. First and second graders will attend
classes on the first floor of the other wing.
The wing above the kindergarten rooms will house
third, fourth and fifth graders, with middle
school classrooms, grades six, seven, and eight,
located on the second floor above the Primary
School wing.
In the upper grades, space has been designated
for computer and science labs and small open
meeting areas. The two wings will be connected
to a central administrative area, library,
cafeteria and gymnasium. This overall design
will create a neighborhood school atmosphere in
each wing, while providing a state-of-the-art
facility to replace the district's aging
buildings. The Concept Design will also provide
the district with an energy efficient complex
while addressing security, parking, and traffic
problems now prevalent at the current middle
school.
The facility will be heated with a wood chip
boiler, with a back-up oil furnace. The two
wings are sited to maximize solar heating and
lighting. Plans also allow for expansion of the
two classroom wings.
A high-school size gymnasium and an inward-sloping roof cap the 119,000
square-foot structure.
If you would like to serve on any of the new
school sub-committees or have a question about
the project, please call the Superintendent's
Office at 924-5262 or contact one of your local
School Board members.
