Building Space Needs/Programming Sub-Committee

    Meeting Date: 1/11/07

1. Agenda, Memo to DOE, Program 1.11.07 & Schedule were distributed.
2. Meeting Notes from the previous 12.12.06 meeting were approved
3. Exeter Public Meeting on December 20th, 2006 had 40-45 attendees. A presentation on the project from concept to date of the site and building plans was made. Good questions and answers followed.
4. DOE Meetings on Jan 4th & Jan 10th:
a. DOE is working with new school guidelines which are being adjusted as this project is being reviewed, so it has taken extra time to receive approval. We expect approval next
week if we can reduce the size of the building for DOE.
b. Reviewed size of school at 119,119 without Alternative fuel, & local only gym & wellness.
c. Program reduced to 146 SF/ student not yet acceptable to DOE who would prefer 140 SF/student.
d. DOE did approve the additional Title 1, Literacy & Special Ed space, which is quite a bit more than most schools receive.

e. Concept Design is still too large especially circulation including the gathering areas. DOE may support middle school gathering areas, but will not approve elementary gathering areas. Hoping to keep the 1     remaining 3-4 gathering area.
f. Schedule for February Concept Approval- and then Late March Referendum holding
g. budget over $30 million and $560,000 State/Local was reviewed ‘Local Only’ DOE wants this budget reduced
h. DOE confirmed that bonding in spring 08’ is approved.

5. Updated Concept Building Plan:
A revised Scheme S with the gym area being reoriented and art/music areas being reconfigured to reduce circulation area by about 1,000 SF was reviewed;
Comments:
a. The bleachers can be located on the locker side closer to the main entrance, and the corridor to the north can be deleted along the art room.
b. The classroom wings are being shortened.
c. The 6,7,8 stair has been reoriented and is critical to the small school idea.
d. Consider daylight into the cafeteria and gym. Skylights would need to have openings be closable in Cafeteria
e. The double loading of corridor to gym & art is fine.
f. Visitor locker room entrance to gym to be reviewed.
g. With changing location of the locker room and bleachers, locker rooms need to be redesigned. h. Gifted and Talented program is not currently staffed, but when staffed could perhaps use the Hands-On room.
j. Cafeteria’s stage will be a great addition for performances
